We are deeply grateful for your generous support o

We are deeply grateful for your generous support of our first-ever FUNDrive fundraiser! Thanks to your plentiful donations of gently used clothing and household goods, we raised $526! As a not-for-profit school, this contribution makes a significant impact, helping us continue to provide programs that nurture children and connect them with nature.

This fundraiser was truly a community effort. On Saturday morning, parents from the Fundraising Committee and their children loaded up vehicles and delivered the donations in a joyful caravan to Savers in Brookfield. A special thank you to Jenna Rodrigues and Ella Lanzi for leading the charge with our FUNDrive! We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our early morning drivers, including Brenna Cochrane, Lauren DeSouza, Faye & Jack Durand, Suzanne Fogle, Ella & Luigi Lanzi, Rachel Moxley, Danielle Nazzaro, Jenna & Danny Rodrigues, and Chris Russo.

While at Savers, parents and children had the unique opportunity to tour the facility and discover how the donated items are put to good use. Here are some inspiring facts we learned:

-95% of donated clothing and textiles can be reused or repurposed.

-Items that don’t sell and remain in good condition are sold to like-minded organizations in domestic and international marketplaces across more than 30 countries. This enables small business owners to supply their local communities with gently used, affordable items like shoes, clothing, housewares, and toys.

-Reusing apparel avoids the carbon emissions that would otherwise be created in the production of new items.

-Savers partners with local nonprofits, such as Veterans Emergency Transition Services, to benefit surrounding communities, helping both the earth and its people.

Thank you to our Westbrook families and the broader local community for coming together to support this initiative. Your generosity and teamwork have made a meaningful difference!

There’s no such thing as bad weather! We were so excited to have rain and puddles at Westbrook today!!

Yesterday, Christine and Betsy from @christinescritters in Weston visited Westbrook Nature School. They brought two bird ambassadors for our Kindergarten children and Parent-Child families to meet and also picked up generous supplies donated by our community.

With the help of Ash, an Eastern Screech Owl, and Douglas, a Northern Saw Whet Owl, we learned about the vital work Christine’s Critters does to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured birds of prey. They shared important tips for helping protect wildlife, including avoiding the disposal of food scraps such as apple cores and orange peels along roadsides. These scraps attract rodents, which in turn draw birds of prey to the roads where they risk being struck by vehicles. Through its educational outreach, Christine’s Critters raises awareness about preventing common injuries to raptors - many of which are caused by human activity.

This special visit gave us a unique opportunity to witness the beauty of these magnificent animals, deepen our respect for them, and foster a greater understanding of the importance of protecting wildlife.

Christine’s Critters cares for 22 permanent resident educational ambassadors and rehabilitates and releases over 150 injured birds of prey each year. Their work is entirely funded by donations, which go directly toward animal care, including vet bills, medical supplies, food, and aviary maintenance. Next week is the LAST week to drop off donations of gently-used goods at our non-profit school. Do you have clothes that no longer fit, old linens hiding in the closet, or a mysterious box of shoes that you haven’t opened in years? Perfect! We’re partnering with FUNDrive to turn your gently used items into support for Westbrook Nature School. Plus, it’s the perfect opportunity to declutter and organize your home before the holidays! Here’s how it works:

🧥 What to Donate: Men’s, women’s & children’s clothes, shoes, bags, accessories, bedding, towels, and other soft goods in bags. Small household goods such as, pots, pans, dishes, toys, games, books and media in boxes.

📅 When: Collection runs through Thursday, November 21st

📍 Drop-off location: Westbrook Nature School (7 Long Ridge Road, West Redding) Please leave on the front covered porch.
