Community Administrator

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to assist the Director part-time (3 days per week) in running daily operations of the school. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with people and organizational skills. This position is open to begin in December.

Duties include:

  • Answer phones and emails, monitor emails and flag for director
  • Write up general/repeat constant contacts
  • Pay bills and keep online payments current
  • Keep track of all passwords
  • Call parents as necessary at request of teachers and director
  • Set up Sign Up Genius for festivals, Lunch Bunch, conferences, and Dorothy Day
  • Keep school calendar and update it regularly
  • Check bank statements for accuracy
  • Schedule tours of kindergarten
  • Stay for lunch bunch 2 days a week
  • Maintain Student and Employee Files
  • Communicate with parents regarding conferences, volunteer committees, birthday celebrations, vaccine requirements, absences, etc.
  • Configure preliminary Parent-Child enrollments
  • Create birthday celebration schedule for kindergarten
  • Edit Parent Handbooks accordingly
  • Order supplies
  • Help maintain compliance with state licensing regulations.

Requirements:

  • Experience in administration preferred but not required
  • Enthusiasm for outdoor early childhood education

Hours:

  • 3 days per week (TBD)
  • 8:15 AM – 1:30 PM
  • Westbrook School is closed during the summer months and school breaks. Administration works from mid August - end of June.
  • Compensation is offered on an hourly basis.

Assistant, Parent-Child Program

Westbrook Nature School, a non-profit nature-based preschool in Redding, CT is seeking a part-time Assistant for our Parent-Child Program. Hours will be from 8:15-11:30am five days per week for the fall, winter, and spring seasons. This position begins in January, for our Winter program. Training will begin in December. (Westbrook is closed during the summer months and school breaks.) Compensation is offered on an hourly basis.

Our Parent-Child Classes are for parents and caregivers with children from birth to three years of age. We meet once a week for two hours from 9-11am during the fall, winter, and spring. This group time provides important socialization for the young child and acclimates them to the school in preparation for the preschool-kindergarten experience. It also gives parents an opportunity to meet other parents in the area and discuss parenting issues.

Ideal candidates must love children and nature and be happy to work outdoors in all kinds of weather including rain and snow. The Assistant will support the Group Leader to provide a nurturing and respectful environment.

Duties include:

  • Offer gentle interaction with caregivers and children.
  • Prepare snack (bread, cheese, fruit, tea, etc.).
  • Set up and clean up snack table.
  • Start/maintain fire during winter season.
  • Assist families with daily craft/activity.
  • Accompany families on trail walks.
  • Engage with families during communal snack.
  • Clean up tableware/kitchen after class.
  • Partner with seasonal craft planning.
  • Organize materials and supplies; Keep track of inventory.
  • Launder napkins and towels at school. Sweep front porch.
  • Assist with three seasonal festivals (note: two are on Saturdays - October & May).
  • Support school-wide fundraising efforts throughout the year.

Optimal candidates would love all seasons, enjoy engaging with families and young children and learning about nature. Being fit, proactive, and enthusiastic with the ability to adapt and change is key. Reliability and being highly organized and efficient are essential.

No previous teaching experience required. Previous participation in our programs is wonderful, but not required. Training will begin in December.

 Assistant Teacher, Mixed-Age Kindergarten - 2026-27 School Year

Westbrook Nature School, now in its twelth year, is seeking a part-time Assistant Teacher for our Mixed-Age Kindergarten (ages 3 to 6) for the 2026-27 school year. Westbrook is a licensed, outdoor, nature-based, nonprofit preschool located in Redding, CT. Ideal candidates must have a passion for both children and nature, with a love for outdoor work, rain or shine, every day. We are looking for someone enthusiastic, energetic, fit, and strong, who brings warmth and joy to their work with young children. Teachers must be prepared to spend the entire morning outside, in all weather conditions - sunshine, rain, snow, wind, and mud.

Candidates must be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and assist with all aspects of daily activities, including snack preparation and classroom maintenance. A strong interest in child development and the natural world is essential.

This position is five days a week, from September through the first week of June, with the following hours:

Mon: 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM

Tues-Fri: 8:00 AM to 1:45 PM

Paid training will begin this spring to ensure the new Assistant Teacher is fully prepared to begin orientation in late August. (Westbrook is closed during the summer months and school breaks.) Compensation is offered on an hourly basis.
