Assistant Teacher Position at Nature-Based Preschool

Westbrook Nature School, now in its eleventh year, is seeking a part-time Assistant Teacher for our Mixed-Age Kindergarten (ages 3 to 6) for the 2025-26 school year. Westbrook is a licensed, outdoor, nature-based, nonprofit preschool located in Redding, CT.

Ideal candidates must have a passion for both children and nature, with a love for outdoor work, rain or shine, every day. We are looking for someone enthusiastic, energetic, fit, and strong, who brings warmth and joy to their work with young children. Teachers must be prepared to spend the entire morning outside, in all weather conditions - sunshine, rain, snow, wind, and mud.

Candidates must be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and assist with all aspects of daily activities, including snack preparation and classroom maintenance. A strong interest in child development and the natural world is essential.

Westbrook teachers are unique individuals who have a profound love and respect for both young children and nature. They build meaningful relationships with each child based on care and understanding while delivering a creative, engaging curriculum. They rise to the physical challenges of outdoor work and play, finding joy in fostering a child’s love of the natural world and helping them reach their full potential in all areas of development.

At Westbrook, we maintain a high teacher-to-student ratio of 1:4, reflecting our commitment to safety and ensuring each child receives plenty of personal attention.

This position is five days a week, from September through the first week of June, with the following hours:

Mon/Wed/Fri: 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM

Tues/Thurs: 8:00 AM to 12:45 PM

Paid training will begin this spring to ensure the new Assistant Teacher is fully prepared to begin orientation in late August.

Interested candidates are asked to submit a cover letter and resume to Danielle Caldwell, Director, at info@westbrooknatureschool.org.
