Last Tuesday, we hosted our Third Annual Spring Wo

Last Tuesday, we hosted our Third Annual Spring Work Day! This special day brought our community together to help clean up the grounds after the fall and winter seasons and prepare the property for our Spring May Fair festival, happening this Saturday.

We extend our sincere thanks to all the Kindergarten and Parent-Child families who generously donated their time, working side by side with staff to model shared responsibility and care for our children and the school. Thanks to your efforts, the flowers are blooming brightly, garden beds are weed-free, maiden grass has been cut back to make way for new growth, and our porch is squeaky clean.

We are deeply grateful for this mid-week initiative - a beautiful act of respect and love for our planet, so fittingly done on Earth Day.🌎

Longer days, warm breezes, spring peepers, and golden daffodils invite us to celebrate the joys of spring at Westbrook! Along with the traditional May pole songs and dances, we will offer activities for children and adults. Decorate flower crowns and revel in the beauty of Westbrook’s meadows, gardens, and woods.

A delicious snack of cheese, crackers, cupcakes, and strawberries & cream will be served, reminding us of the sweetness of the season and of the community we serve.

Dear Westbrook Families, Friends, and Alumni -

We are thrilled to share that, thanks to your generosity and partnership, our 2025 Silent Auction raised an incredible $19,000, surpassing last year’s total! This achievement would not have been possible without the collective efforts of so many.

Proceeds will support the replacement of the canvas siding for the Parent-Child yurt and a new play set for the Kindergarten, and help us continue our mission of ensuring that families experiencing economic hardship can send their children to our school.

A heartfelt thank you to Tom Boe and Justine Landegger for once again opening their beautiful home for our Spring Soirée and for hosting the closing of the auction. And to Eva Landegger, Justine’s mother, for donating and designing the stunning floral bouquets in gorgeous nature-themed vases that were raffled off at the party - raising $450! And to Analisa, a family friend of the Landeggers, who lovingly baked homemade Italian desserts for the party. They were a sweet highlight of the evening! We are truly grateful for all of their graciousness and kindness.

Come join our team! Westbrook Nature School, now in its eleventh year, is seeking a part-time Assistant Teacher for our Mixed-Age Kindergarten (ages 3 to 6) for the 2025-26 school year.

Located on 6 acres in beautiful Redding, CT, Westbrook is a licensed, outdoor, nature-based, nonprofit preschool where learning happens in rain, sunshine, snow, mud, and wind. Here, every day is an adventure in the outdoors! Teachers should be ready to embrace full mornings outdoors, experiencing all types of weather, able to work collaboratively with colleagues, and assist with all aspects of daily activities, including snack preparation and classroom maintenance.

A Strong Community Focus: We’re more than just a school; we’re a tight-knit community of educators and families united by our commitment to nurturing children’s curiosity and fostering love and respect for the earth.

Small Class Size: With a 1:4 teacher-to-student ratio, you’ll have the opportunity to build deep, meaningful relationships with each child, ensuring personalized attention and care.

Creativity: Our educators implement an engaging, nature-inspired curriculum that supports children’s development while fostering a deep connection to the environment.

Work That Moves You - Literally! This role is perfect for someone who thrives in an active environment, enjoys outdoor challenges, and finds joy in nature’s ever-changing beauty.

Professional Growth: We value your development too. Paid training starts in the spring, giving you the tools and confidence to dive into this fulfilling role come August. We also offer nature-based professional development during the school year.

We’re looking for someone enthusiastic, energetic, and strong - a person who brings warmth, creativity, and a sense of wonder to the class. If you’re passionate about child development and the natural world, we’d love to hear from you!

This is a part-time position running from late August through early June.
Mon/Wed/Fri: 8:00 AM – 1:30 PM
Tues/Thurs: 8:00 AM – 12:12:45 PM
