Parent-Child Assistant Position

Westbrook Nature School, a non-profit nature-based preschool in Redding, CT, is seeking a part-time Assistant for our Parent-Child Program. This part-time position would begin in January 2023 with training in December. Hours will be from 8:30-11:30am five days per week for the fall, winter, and spring seasons.

Our Parent-Child Classes are for parents and caregivers with children from birth to three years of age. We meet once a week for two-hours (90 minutes in the winter) during the fall, winter, and spring. This group time provides important socialization for the young child and acclimates them to the school in preparation for the preschool-kindergarten experience. It also gives parents an opportunity to meet other parents in the area and to discuss parenting issues.

The main role of the Assistant is to support the Group Leader and provide a nurturing and respectful environment. Ideal candidates enjoy gentle interaction with young children and their caregivers and should exhibit reliability, organizational skills, and efficiency while being enthusiastic and adaptable.

Additionally, the Assistant will work with the Parent-Child Leader in planning and designing seasonal crafts, and organizing materials and supplies. Optimal candidates possess a natural curiosity about nature as well as a love of the outdoors, in all kinds of weather including rain and snow.

Duties include:

Preparing food and drink for snack

Setting the snack table and craft table

Accompany families on trail walks

End of class clean-up of tables, play yard and kitchen

Set up for next day’s snack and craft
